In Memory - Dr. John Thomas

Shall I be critical of life or shall I celebrate it? I know what I want to do! In lieu of a memorial service, I want to have an old fashioned variety show when the time is right and the laughter comes easily. It will be at UCC: an afternoon or an evening of stories, of merriment and music, a celebration of who we were and who we have become. And we do have lots to celebrate. No one required us to register for war in southeast Asia; our recessions were just that, not depressions; we spent our formative years enjoying the greatest economic boon in modern history; and if the economists tell us that the median standard of living has risen very little in the thirty years since that boom ended, I just don't see it when I look at your lifestyle or mine. We rode the crest of the Golden Years, we've done very well thank you, and we had a wonderful time doing it! Most important, I think we've made a difference in this world. Our job now is to keep on making a difference.

Humour works - free money

For a few weeks, there as been a little scandal here in Ontario, but it hasn't gotten much press. GrantsRUs.ca is a funny site about the fact that the government was giving out money to its friends without any application process. Somehow, I think that will get more eyes as an online, grassroots movement than anything else.

National Champs

Congratulations to the Middlebury Men's Rugby Team on winning the National Champtionship - D2. Wish I could have been there.
